Born in 1976, Donaciano Peralta was raised amidst an established art scene in Taos, New Mexico. Family friends were some of Taos’ most noted artists. Donaciano was encouraged to develop his artistic talents from a young age.
Still, he pushed the idea of becoming a professional artist aside in order to chase other dreams.
After starting and selling a couple of businesses, a chance encounter at a Santa Fe gallery changed his life direction back to art.
Peralta was admiring a larger than life clay sculpture of a Native American Warrior kneeling down just enough to clear the 10 ft. ceiling of the gallery. The artist approached Donaciano and asked if he was a sculptor, to which Donaciano answered “No.” The artist proceeded to tell him that because of the way he was studying it that he thought he may too be a sculptor. Donaciano left the gallery and sought out any information he could find on sculpting and bronze casting. Eventually he taught himself enough about the process to feel comfortable with producing his first piece.
Donaciano Peralta’s work teeters between stylized and realistic depictions of the figure. Fluid movement and expressive detail are seen throughout the collection. Peralta has exhibited in a number of galleries and his work is included in collections in New York, Kansas, Colorado, Arizona and California.
