Char Norman has a deep-rooted connection to natural objects and environmental issues while examining the relationship between man and nature. The pod forms she uses are both a type of shroud for natural relics and a womb or cradle for rebirth. This dichotomy of ideas is further expressed by the mending of natural objects through the violent act of stitching and fastening parts together.
Char is a weaver by trade, with her MFA from Claremont Graduate Univ., a BA from Scripps College, and graduate courses at San Diego State University. Char has acted as Dean of Faculty at CCAD for several years before recently retiring, and pursuing her art full-time.
