Mitzi Prince is an abstract expressionist painter specializing in works in oil on canvas. Unlike most oil painters, Prince begins her work with a black canvas rather than a white one, stating that she likes to “paint from the void.” Due to this she is required to layer her oils (sometimes as many as 20 times) and her paintings, as a result, actually shift colors in the light. In addition, her process gives her pieces a sense of depth that is rather unique to this style of painting.
Prince also teaches fine art at The Briarwood School in Houston, Texas to children with learning differences and disabilities. She has been featured in shows at Santa Fe East in Santa Fe, New Mexico and has been represented by Muse Gallery for almost 20 years.
