“I’m concerned with finding ways to make a statement.” In a world of personal observations, Byrne wants to make sure hers command attention.  “Before discovering art, I didn’t have the tools to process what I had to say. Your observation of things sets you apart and what attracted me to art was the ability to tell a story.”

Although ceramics is her primary medium, Byrne looks at life through painterly eyes.  “Everything starts as a drawing and then struggles to make a very personal observation. Your personal life experiences are always the foundation.”

Byrne’s observations of life are drawn from growing up in a large family of modest means. A visit to the home of her future husband kick-started her artistic career when she drank from a ceramic mug made by an artist.  “I was amazed that someone you knew could make something like that. It is a great luxury to spend your life making things.”
