Born in Ohio, Carl found a love for Art when he attended and graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design in 2003 with a BFA. Now finished with his work at the Great Southern Hotel, He has learned a lot about painting from that experience. "Doing the work I did at the Westin made me learn a variety of techniques and drawing styles. Now I hope to use what I learned to really do the things I love to do!"
Carl really admires artists that use their Life experiences and interests to make their art. "My teacher, Michael McEwan, had so much energy for Plein Eir Painting, it was he who turned me on to artists like Richard Schmid and other great Plein Eir painters that would travel the world to find their subjects. Although I've got a whole lot to learn about Plein Eir Painting, I hope to pursue that sort of life." In 2004 Carl made his first real attempt at Plein Eir Painting at Cedarburg's Plein Eir competition and won 1 of 12 Honorable mention awards.
